The curious psychology of a fan

Someone you have never met can make you jump around with joy or even cry. Think about that for a moment. A cricketer can walk back to the pavilion after getting out, and your entire evening is ruined. An actor can deliver a line in a film and you can carry it with you for years. A singer can release a song and somehow it becomes so dear to you that you keep playing it on repeat the whole day. A politician can say something on television and you can spend the next hour arguing with a complete stranger on the internet defending him. There is something slightly absurd about this. These people don't know us. They don't know our names. They don't know where we live. They don't know what we do, who our parents are, or what made us happy today. We have never sat across a table with them. We have never called them when we were in trouble. They have never called us when they were in trouble. And yet, we love them.
